Dressmaker fabric stats: sketchbook vs finished dress

Steam release · community notes, September 2026 · Reviewed 29 September 2026

A fabric sample’s sketchbook range does not guarantee that score on the finished dress. Players report that the mix and placement of fabrics affect the result. Compare the assembled dress with the brief, then change one panel at a time.

Why the planned value can differ

syrenkasin chose fabrics that appeared to meet the draft requirements, then found the assembled dress below the target. Restarting and recutting did not solve that case. Their update says adding a third fabric with the needed attributes to the sleeves brought the result up.

martiangothic explains the brighter green sketchbook bar as a possible range rather than a guaranteed final score. Another commenter describes the importance of the amount and strength of each fabric. These are player explanations, not a published scoring formula, so this site does not turn them into an exact calculator.

Inspect the mix before assuming a bug

When several fabrics are involved, a small panel made from a strong fabric may not contribute as much as you expected from its catalogue value. Record the actual result after assembly rather than adding fabric labels together as if each applied to the whole garment.

If a value does not change at all, that is a different observation from changing by less than expected. Record which panel changed, both fabrics and the before-and-after reading. That makes a report much easier to investigate.

Change one variable at a time

  1. Copy the requirement and the actual value shown for the assembled dress.
  2. Identify which panels use each of your selected fabrics. The inventory hover hint can help.
  3. Choose one panel to revise, retaining the original cloth area where possible before recycling.
  4. Recheck the value after the change and record the result.
  5. Only then decide whether to change another panel, a design component or an accessory.

Two requirements do not need one magic fabric

In the warm-and-eclectic discussion, players suggest using design components for one attribute and fabric or accessories for another. The original questioner had struggled to find a single fabric that met both needs.

That is a useful way to organise the task: list the conditions separately and consider which part of the design could satisfy each one. It is not a guarantee that any combination will pass. Some attributes may not have a suitable accessory in your current inventory, as the fabric-stat thread itself points out. Read the actual options rather than assuming decoration can rescue every shortfall.
