Dressmaker missing pattern: checks before starting over

Check whether the piece is missing or just hard to place

A piece that remains in inventory needs a different check from a piece that has disappeared. For an inventory panel, use the placement hint described in the paper-pattern guide. Build 410 added a hover hint for its intended position on the mannequin.

If you cannot find the piece at all, inspect the fabric you have already cut. In the Steam discussion, Castardly suggested that the pattern might still be sitting on fabric. That is the first check because it does not require abandoning the commission.

Try the reported recovery sequence

1. Leave using the normal in-game exit flow; keep your existing save.
2. Quit the game, then reopen it and load the same save.
3. Check the pattern inventory and the unfinished dress before cutting replacement fabric.

Artpathie reported a missing front skirt pattern during Prudence’s first dress. lunaxlee described a similar disappearance after undoing sewing and suggested the save-and-restart sequence. Artpathie returned the following day to confirm that the piece had reappeared. This is one documented conversation, rather than a fix verified across every dress or build.

If restarting does not restore it

A newer Reddit thread describes cut pieces remaining in inventory while the mannequin offers nothing to sew. Several players reported that restarting did not help. That case is unresolved in the discussion checked on 29 September; the Prudence workaround should not be presented as its confirmed fix.

Keep a record of the customer, the selected design, the missing part and the action immediately before it vanished. A screenshot of the inventory and mannequin will help another player or the developer distinguish a placement problem from a disappearance.

Use the linked Steam thread for context, or the game’s Steam community to report a separate case. Avoid treating a failed workaround as proof that you need to erase your save. The commission planner can hold your design notes while you investigate.
