Dressmaker lace trim: direction, pins & placement
Steam release · community notes, September 2026 · Reviewed 29 September 2026
If lace faces the wrong way, try drawing the same short section from the opposite end. Players independently report that placement direction changes its orientation. Check a small section before trimming the whole dress.
Start with a short test, not the whole hem
In the September 25 CozyGamers thread, players describe lace landing on the wrong surface, uneven widths and awkward camera movement around sleeves. The useful first question is whether the trim faces the wrong way or sits in the wrong place. Those need different adjustments.
For orientation, Strawberry_Milk27 and blifflesplick both recommend reversing the direction of placement. That is more useful than memorising a universal left-to-right rule: the camera and the edge you are decorating can change your view of the line. Try the same short section in both directions and keep the one that faces the way you intend.
Place, pause and move the camera
- Move the lace to its starting point and release it. Click to mark a point, then move to the next point without holding the button down.
- Right-click to stop extending the line before changing the camera angle.
- Rotate the mannequin to bring the next section into view, then select the red pin to continue.
- Adjust the pins and tilt in a small area before continuing around the garment.
Kirkversary describes the following mouse workflow. Treat it as a player-reported sequence and compare it with the prompts in your current build.
Fix orientation separately from spacing
A backward-facing scallop is not necessarily a spacing problem. Increasing its size can make the mismatch more obvious without correcting its direction. First establish which way the trim should hang; then revisit the positions and tilt of its pins.
For a matching pair of lines, drawing a mirror image may give you opposite-facing trims. Start at the other end of the second line and compare the result before extending it. Another player suggested holding the tilt control, but the original poster said that did not work for them. Reversing the line has stronger support in that conversation.
Around sleeves and on a handheld
The underside of a sleeve is especially awkward because you cannot see the attachment point from the same angle as the top. Pause placement, move the view, and inspect a short section. This is an editing workflow, not a claim that every camera issue is fixed.
Steam Deck players in the same discussion say a missing zoom binding can make decoration much harder. The handheld guide separates Z and middle-mouse mappings so you can test the control used in the scene you are working in. If a trim continues attaching to the wrong surface, record the trim name, camera angle and game build for a bug report.
